Here we are feeding the Guineas dandelion leaves. They really love them and will rush up to get some and even fight over them. We don't know if it's because they taste so good or if they just want to be the lucky Guinea with a special treat.

Keets, 3 days old
We put little braces on three of the keets because they had splayed legs. Spayed leg is when keets don't get sure footing when their muscles are developing and their legs go out to the sides. To cure it is easy: just take a rubber band, band-aid or pipe cleaner and wrap it around the keets legs. In a few days they should be walking just fine. Two of the keets we splinted are walking normally after wearing the brace for just one day. This one is still having a hard time walking so we put the splint back on...we named her Ilene. This is a picture of Ilene's pipe cleaner brace.
This is Ilene eating out of Aria's hand before we put her brace on.

Feeding the Keets, Day 28
We are feeding the keets chopped up hard-boiled egg yolk. They really like it and will sometimes cross our hands to get to it. The egg yolk is healthy for them because it has protein.
They all came up to us to get more of the egg yolk. The Keets are Hatching, Day 26
When we woke up this morning we saw a keet inside the incubator. We think he came out early in the morning and was in the incubator by the time that we woke up. Since he was the first Guinea, we named him Primo.
These two were born next and the egg next to them is about to hatch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He's working on it.
These two got really excited as the egg was hatching and started moving around really fast.
They started helping.
A beak is coming out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just a little more.
Here he comes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We now have 4 Guineas!
Evan is petting one of the keets.
The keets are hungry (just like me).
Aria is holding a keet. They are so cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Visting the Mamas and the Papas, Day 22
We are on the haystack at Uncle Chuck's and Aunt Debby's farm. In a few minutes we're going to feed the Mamas and Papas of our eggs.
The Guineas are in the pen. We're just about to feed them and we think they are hungry! Uncle Chuck and Aunt Debby have 11 Guineas and this is just 7 of them.
We're feeding the Guineas. Andres, the big dark one, is the leader. He's really funny because he runs around everywhere and checks on all the Guineas.
Here are two Guineas just looking at us. These are called Pearl Guineas.
Here we are on the tractor. Uncle Chuck gave us the keys and we are driving the tractor to Target and Toys R Us! Just kidding!
The Guineas made a nest in the hay storage shed and hid it. We think They're going to have more than 11 Guineas at the farm soon!

Emptying the Emptys, Day 18
These are the eggs that have Guineas in them. These eggs will hatch and will NOT become scrambled eggs!! In 10 days the Guineas will start hatching but until then they will stay in the incubator. When the eggs hatch we're going to stay up for a day or two watching Guineas hatch!
We took the empty eggs, put them in an egg carton and will make scrambled eggs. Just kidding! These eggs are rotten and we threw them away.

14 Guineas Growing, Day 14
Today we candled ALL the eggs! We wanted to see which eggs had Guineas in them. Eggs #2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 18, 20, 22, 23, 25 & 29 did not have Guineas in them. If they don't have any Guineas in them the eggs look like this:
Eggs #1, 4, 7, 9, 14, 15, 16, 17, 19, 21, 24, 26, 27 & 28 have Guineas in them. They look like this:
We kept careful notes and we're hoping all 14 Guineas hatch!!

Candling the Eggs Again, Day 8

Candling the eggs, Day 4
We candled the eggs by holding a flashlight up to them to see if a guinea was inside. We didn't see anything, but maybe we'll see something next week.
I am pouring water to refill the base to make more humidity in the incubator. We put the incubator in the bathroom with a heater so the eggs will stay warm when we pick them up.
One last look before we put the lid back on!

Getting the Guinea Eggs
Uncle Chuck brought us the eggs and the incubator so we can get started. Here we have the three parts: the base, the eggs and the lid. Guinea hens roll the eggs around to make them hatch and the yellow part rotates the eggs.
The hens need heat and humidity to hatch. Evan pours the water which will make humidity when the incubator is turned on.
Dad is talking to us and our friend Sasha and showing us how to put the eggs into the base.
We have 29 eggs! Probably all of the eggs won't hatch, but we hope most of them will. The egs have to stay around 100 degrees!
