Guinea Keet Snack Time!

Here we are feeding the Guineas dandelion leaves. They really love them and will rush up to get some and even fight over them. We don't know if it's because they taste so good or if they just want to be the lucky Guinea with a special treat.

Keets, 3 days old

We put little braces on three of the keets because they had splayed legs. Spayed leg is when keets don't get sure footing when their muscles are developing and their legs go out to the sides. To cure it is easy: just take a rubber band, band-aid or pipe cleaner and wrap it around the keets legs. In a few days they should be walking just fine. Two of the keets we splinted are walking normally after wearing the brace for just one day. This one is still having a hard time walking so we put the splint back on...we named her Ilene. This is a picture of Ilene's pipe cleaner brace.

This is Ilene eating out of Aria's hand before we put her brace on.

Feeding the Keets, Day 28

We are feeding the keets chopped up hard-boiled egg yolk. They really like it and will sometimes cross our hands to get to it. The egg yolk is healthy for them because it has protein.

They all came up to us to get more of the egg yolk. The Keets are Hatching, Day 26

When we woke up this morning we saw a keet inside the incubator. We think he came out early in the morning and was in the incubator by the time that we woke up. Since he was the first Guinea, we named him Primo.

These two were born next and the egg next to them is about to hatch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's working on it.

These two got really excited as the egg was hatching and started moving around really fast.

They started helping.

A beak is coming out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a little more.

Here he comes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We now have 4 Guineas!

Evan is petting one of the keets.

The keets are hungry (just like me).

Aria is holding a keet. They are so cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a Surprise! ,Day 25

Today we moved the eggs from the piece that rocks them, to the base. That way the keets can hatch and they'll have a place to stand.

Two of the eggs have started to crack early! Number 14, come on out!

You can do it, keep pecking!
